While we had difficulty with a new camera connecting to the monitor, the good folks at Swift Hitch and etrailer came to the rescue, they follow us through the warranty issues and permitted us to receive a replacement that currently works fine. Their service is commendable, thank you.

How Do Batteries in Swift Hitch Camera Setup Get Replaced
The battery in the Swift Hitch camera # SH01-C is soldered in place. So for replacement you would have to remove the existing battery and solder the new one in place. If you do not feel comfortable with this, Swift Hitch will replace the battery for you if you will send them your camera. Once the 4 screws are removed you should be able to grab the housing for the lens of the camera and slide it out. For a replacement battery for the camera you'd want the part # PB02.

Wireless Back Up Camera for Use Behind a Trailer
The best back up camera I could recommend for use at the rear of a trailer would be the Swift Hitch Portable Water Resistant Wireless Camera # SH01-C. This wireless camera would work great and wouldn't require you to tap into the trailer wiring for installation. Check out the install video I attached for more info. This monitor doesn't have a 5 inch screen but you can hook it up to a larger screen if needed with the included video cable.

Two Camera Swift Hitch Setup with Longer Battery Life
We have a Swift Hitch setup that comes with two cameras and a single monitor like you are looking for that has a 10 hour battery life like you are wanting as well. For that you'd want the part # SH03D. There isn't a way to remotely turn the camera off and on though. If you permanently mount the base of the camera you can pop the ball socket from the base out so that you can then take the camera back and charge it.
